Weekly Update

Hello, Trojan Families!

🖤💛 Welcome Back, Trojans!

Welcome back to another great week of learning, growing, and collaboration at FVMS! We hope everyone enjoyed the extended Labor Day weekend, got some rest, and is ready to jump back in. We have quite a few announcements and upcoming events in this edition of Ms. Johnson’s Weekly Announcements, so let’s jump right in!

🏈 40–0! Our Trojans Did THAT!

Congratulations to our FVMS Trojan Football Team on an impressive 40–0 WIN over Cirrus Academy! Way to go, players and coaches! But there’s no time to put away that black and gold because this week is a BIG one.

FVMS Trojans vs. Byron Middle School Eagles

📅 Wednesday, September 9

⏰ 6:00 PM

📍 Peach County High School

It’s rivalry time! Come out, wear your black and gold, and help us fill the stands as our Trojans take on the Eagles of Byron Middle.

Let’s protect the momentum! GO TROJANS!🖤💛🏈

📣 First Pep Rally Tomorrow!

Trojan Families, we’re getting ready to TURN UP the Trojan spirit! 🖤💛 Tomorrow, we will hold our first pep rally of the year as we get our Trojans fired up to take on our rivals, the Byron Middle School Eagles! The pep rally will begin at approximately 1:30 PM.

If you do arrive after the pep rally has started, we will absolutely get your student to you, but please understand that it may take us a little longer than usual to locate them and complete the checkout process. We appreciate your patience! Now tell your Trojan to bring that BLACK & GOLD ENERGY!

GO TROJANS! BEAT THE EAGLES! 🏈📣🖤💛

📚 Annual Title I Meeting – Thursday

Our Annual Title I Meeting will take place this Thursday at 6:00 PM. As a Title I school, we hold this meeting each year to ensure our families understand what Title I is, how Title I funds and resources support our students, our schoolwide goals, and the important role families play in their children’s education. It is also an opportunity for parents to learn about their rights and the ways they can be involved in our Title I program.

The meeting will be posted on our school Facebook page and ParentSquare, so you can watch from wherever you are.

After watching, please be sure to complete the sign-off using the link provided. Your participation matters!

📊 Grades Are Posting Soon!

Parents, it’s already that time!

Student grades will be posted on Tuesday, September 15, so NOW is the time to check in with your Trojan.

Please make sure your student has:

Completed and submitted any missing assignments

Talked with teachers about work they do not understand

Checked that assignments they completed have been submitted

Taken advantage of opportunities to get additional help

Progress reports will be distributed Thursday, September 17.

Don’t wait until the report comes home to be surprised. Ask your student to show you their grades now and make a plan for anything that needs attention.

💻 Don’t Wait—Check Infinite Campus!

Remember, you don’t have to wait for a progress report to know how your student is doing. Infinite Campus gives parents access to grades, assignments, missing work, and attendance information throughout the school year.

Take a few minutes this week to log in and review your student’s progress with them. If you notice a concern, now is the time to address it, not after the progress report comes home. And if you are having trouble accessing your Infinite Campus Parent Portal, please contact the school so we can help you get connected.

Check early. Ask questions. Make a plan.🖤💛

🏫 Open House – September 17!

We are opening our doors, Trojan Family! Join us for FVMS Open House on Thursday, September 17, from 5:30–7:00 PM.

Instead of simply walking around, parents will have an opportunity to rotate through their student’s actual schedule! We will begin together in the FVMS Gym at 5:30 PM for a brief overview of the evening. From there, you will make your way to your student’s first-period class and rotate through the remainder of the schedule.

During your visit, you’ll have an opportunity to meet each teacher and learn more about:

Classroom expectations

What your student is learning this semester

Academic goals and instructional priorities

Ways you can support learning at home

Bring your questions and come ready to learn more about your Trojan’s school day. We want you to leave knowing who is teaching your child, what we expect, and how we can work together to help your student succeed.

☕ Koffee and Konversations with Kizzy

We think we’ve had a GREAT start to the school year. But what we think isn’t the only thing that matters. I want to hear what YOU think. That’s why I’m inviting our parents and community members to join me for Koffee and Konversations with Kizzy, an informal principal roundtable where we can have open, honest conversations about FVMS.

You have two opportunities to join me:

☕ Thursday, September 17 | 4:30–5:30 PM

Immediately before Open House

☕ Friday, September 18 | 9:00–11:00 AM

Things are going great? Tell me.

Something isn’t going so well? Tell me that too.

Have an idea that could make FVMS stronger? I want to hear it.

Have a question you've been wanting to ask? Ask it.

No topic is off the table. I'll provide the coffee and pastries, and you bring your questions, ideas, concerns, and perspective. Most importantly, I'll bring a listening ear. Strong schools aren't built by schools alone. They are built through meaningful partnerships with the families and communities they serve. Your voice matters at FVMS.

🤝 Student-Parent Compacts – We Need Them Back!

Parents, our Student-Parent Compacts were sent home last week, and now we need your help getting them signed and returned to school.

The compact represents our shared commitment to student success. It outlines what FVMS, our parents, and our students each agree to do to support learning throughout the school year.

Please take a few minutes to:

✔️ Read the compact with your student

✔️ Complete and sign the parent portion

✔️ Have your student complete and sign the student portion

✔️ Return it to school as soon as possible

Thank you to everyone who has already returned yours! If yours is still riding around in a bookbag somewhere, this is your reminder to rescue it! 😂

At FVMS, One Team. One Dream. Growing Together.isn't just a slogan. Our compact is one way we put that partnership into action. 🖤💛

📸 SAVE THE DATE: Fall Picture Day!

Okay, parents...this is your official warning! 😂 Fall Picture Day is Monday, September 28!

Go ahead and start preparing now because we all know how Picture Day morning can go.

Hair? ✔️

Outfit? ✔️

Smile? ✔️

Remembering that it's Picture Day BEFORE you're halfway to school? PLEASE! 😂

These are the pictures that have a way of resurfacing at graduations, birthdays, weddings, and every other embarrassing family moment for years to come, so tell your Trojan to come camera-ready and bring that smile!📸😁

📖 Get Your FVMS Yearbook While It’s on Sale!

Twenty years from now, your student probably won't remember what they got on that random quiz in September, but they will remember the people, friendships, teams, teachers, celebrations, and experiences that made middle school memorable.

That's what a yearbook captures. FVMS student yearbooks are available for purchase NOW! Don't wait until the end of the year and hear those dreaded words: “Mama, I forgot to tell you I needed a yearbook...” 😂

Order your FVMS Yearbook here

Get yours ordered and make sure your Trojan has a keepsake from Our Year of Momentum!

💡 Parent Tip of the Week: Ask Them to Teach YOU Something

Here’s a simple challenge for this week. Instead of asking:

“What did you learn at school today?”

Try:

“Teach me something you learned this week.”

Then let your student be the expert. Ask questions. Let them explain it. If they get stuck, encourage them to think through it rather than immediately giving them the answer. When students can explain something in their own words, it gives you a much better picture of whether they truly understand it. And you may be surprised by what your middle schooler knows! You don't have to know Algebra, Life Science, Georgia Studies, or every novel they're reading to support learning at home. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can say is:

“Okay...teach me.”

🖤💛 Let’s Have Another Great Week!

Trojan Family, we have a busy couple of weeks ahead, but they are filled with opportunities to learn, compete, connect, communicate, and grow. Our Year of Momentum continues to remind us that an exceptional year isn't created in one big moment.

Great days become great weeks.

Great weeks become great months.

Great months become great semesters.

And great semesters become an exceptional year.

Thank you for continuing to show up for our students and for FVMS. Whether you're cheering from the stands Wednesday night, watching our Title I meeting, checking grades, walking your child's schedule at Open House, sitting down for Koffee and Konversations, or simply asking your Trojan to teach you something they learned—you are part of this work.

One Team. One Dream. Growing Together.
