Trojan Family,
At Fort Valley Middle School (FVMS), we encourage every student to read for at least 20 minutes each night—no matter what.Consistent reading strengthens vocabulary, comprehension, focus, and critical thinking skills that are essential for success on the Georgia Milestones.
How Parents Can Support at Home:
Set a consistent time each evening for reading (before bed works well).
Create a quiet space free from distractions.
Ask 2–3 quick questions after reading:
What was the main idea?
What was one important detail?
What did you learn or find interesting?
Have your child summarize the reading in their own words.
Model reading by reading alongside your child when possible.
Reading with purpose means students are not just moving through words—they are thinking, analyzing, and making meaning. Just 20 focused minutes each night can make a measurable difference in confidence and performance.
Together, we can build strong readers and strong test-takers.
