Weekly Update

Good Morning, Fort Valley Middle Families

We hope you and your student enjoyed your Presidents' Day and the additional time off. We return to school today, February 18th — and we look forward to seeing everyone soon!

🏀 Girls Basketball Champions!
Congratulations to our Girls Basketball Team on their undefeated season and their championship win over Howard Middle School last Wednesday! We are so proud of you and the tremendous growth you’ve shown over the last two years. Wow — two championships in one year! Let’s just say, the Trojans did not come to play this year. We celebrate your hard work, discipline, and teamwork!

📝 Progress Reports
Progress reports will go home Tuesday. Please review your child’s grades carefully and have a conversation with them about their progress in each class.
If you have questions or concerns about grades, please contact your child’s teacher directly. Early communication makes a difference.

✍️ WriteScore Assessment
The WriteScore assessment will take place next week. This assessment helps us monitor student writing growth and academic progress.
Please ensure your child gets adequate rest each night and arrives at school on time. Talk with your child about doing their very best and putting forth strong effort. Confidence and preparation matter.

🩺 Scoliosis Screenings
Scoliosis screenings for 6th and 8th grade students will take place today. If you did not want your child to be screened, an opt-out form should have been submitted in advance.

🎉 Halfway Point Behavior Celebration
This Friday, we will hold our halfway point behavior celebration. Students who are eligible to attend the Glow Party have:

  • No ISS

  • No OSS

  • No bus suspensions

  • No more than two minor referrals.

We believe in rewarding students for doing what they are asked to do each day — following expectations, demonstrating responsibility, and making positive choices.
Our next behavior celebration will take place next month before we leave for spring break. Eligibility for that celebration begin on Monday, February 23rd and mirror the expectations above. Please talk with your student about aiming to meet these behavioral goals and maintaining strong behavior moving forward.

👗 Winter Formal Dress Try-On
Students who signed up in advance online may look through dresses for the Winter Formal during Connections time. Only students and parents who completed the online sign-up in advance will be permitted to participate. This event is completely free and at no cost to students.

🍧 Kona Ice
Kona Ice will be on campus Thursday. The cost is $4.

📊 Georgia School Climate Survey – Parent Input Needed
All Peach County schools are administering the Georgia School Climate Survey through the Georgia Department of Education. This feedback helps us identify strengths and areas for growth within our school community.
Parents, please take a few minutes to complete the family survey for Fort Valley Middle School using the link below:

Your voice matters, and we truly value your input.

📚 Looking Ahead — Preparing for Testing Season
As we approach March, we are entering an important academic stretch leading up to state assessments. Beginning next week, I am excited to launch Trojan Test Tips!
My goal is to provide free resources, practice ideas, and helpful tips to support your child as they prepare for the Georgia Milestones and build confidence in their learning.
What to expect:

  • Weekly emails with curated resources and strategies

  • Sent every Tuesday

  • Continuing each week until Milestones testing

Please encourage your child to spend a little time each night practicing and reviewing. Even a few minutes of consistent practice can make a big difference in their confidence and success!

Thank you for partnering with us to support your Trojan’s growth and achievement. Together, we are building excellence.

With appreciation,
Kizzy S. Johnson
